shit son thats just bad news. everyones getting pissy in that area, for a very good reason. kids who aren't wearing the right gear, and most importantly of all, knowing how to use it. ive seen kids rip down that hill and try to stop and just completely FUCKED themselves up, its terrible yet humorous thing to see, but it also just looks bad on our part..

ive ridden with you once before i know you can footbreak to a stop, so this guy must of had some serious beef with longboarders in order to do something like that.

I agree With what eli says, There kids that bomb kerns in just short, t-shirt and a new era hat. One kid i saw was wering inline skates and completley ate it. Another reason why kerns is so heate dnow becaus eof people who dont wear protective gear.. wich means less places to skate for us.

...i know you can footbreak to a stop, so...

Foot breaking and even sliding can't help you if you don't know how to time traffic/aren't paying close enough attention/something unexpected happens. See a car, DON'T SKATE. Simple but effective way to keep yourself from ending up under someone's bumper. Even then unexpected situations happen all the time. Wear your gear, know your hills, never go faster than you can foot brake/slide before a turn/intersection, be prepared to do as at all times, and remember what we are doing is dangerous no matter how many precautions we take. All we can do is try and reduce them.

I have a similar story to yours. i was coming down a hill and at the bottom of the hill is a three way intersection. I was wearing all my gear (check) and knew that the turning traffic has a stop sign and I do not. (Know your hill, check) Even then, just knowing that there is a possibility of a car not seeing me at the bottom I decided not to fully bomb the hill. And boy am I glad I did. I'm doing maybe 30 35 kph when I see a truck pull a rolling stop at the bottom. Even though the truck "should" be out of my way before I reach the bottom I decided to slam my foot down a hard as I can. Buddy in the trucks pulls out into the intersection, sees me coming, and slams on his brakes right in the middle. Now he's in my way and boy am I glad I already started breaking. I get increasingly closer and closer realizing that I'm not going to be able to stop in time. Luckily the driver slams on the gas and gets out of the middle of the intersection. As I try to recover from my emergency foot break I lose it and fall. I come to a stop about 20 feet past where the car had stopped. Unfortunately my board had not. My board ended up smacking some guys car pretty damn hard and boy was he pissed. After saying I know I know Ill pay Ill pay a million times he finally calms down and I can explain to him that it wasn't my fault. After he took a look around, realized that I had the right of way and buddy in the truck stopped right in my way he said he didn't care about that damage (not too bad) and actually started showing interest in what I was doing. As for buddy in the truck, he took off the instant he saw me get back up. (Real nice eh?) Point being even with all my precautions a shitty driver almost got me run over. I feel like I did everything I could to prevent that situation and only by a stroke of luck did I make it out unscathed. /Rant

@45 How hard did u foot break? and maybe next time pendy or somthing?

@IRA/Yotang  Me eli and my brother were riding and a similar thing happened but we all did slides/slowed down and got out of the way of the car.    maybe riding to the curb isnt the best option idk in my opinion i prolly would of grabbed my board and did a hard slide.
BUT is that why i haven't seen u at school..     if ur at school i wanna hear this story tomorrow in person      Nah, dude, fuck that. Cry

WHERE did the car go after you fell?

I was foot braking as hard as I could but the hill was just too steep to stop. (try foot breaking down the top section of the pooper, nearly impossible to come to a complete stop) As for pulling a slide, by the time I realized he wasn't moving I was already braking so in order to pendy I would have had to take my foot off the ground, position it properly, and then slide. I just didn't have enough time to do that as this all happened in seconds and I was still moving pretty quickly.
