I want to start hosting some Newb sessions out here in the spring.  Show everyone some of the gems of the Burlington/Dundas area, hopefully some of the more experienced riders will come out to give some pointers and show the ropes.

I was thinking of hosting a Mild DH Session at some point, hitting all the runs around Burlington(mellower one's) and maybe moving into to Waterdown/Dundas for a few faster runs, but no where near as crazy as Hamilton/Grimbsy/Niagara.

I was also hoping to host a Intro to corners session.  We have quite a few fun, not too fast or hairy corners out here too, which are perfect for ANY skill level.  This session would hopefully help riders learn to drift, predrift or just stick corners and work on technique while riding corners.  Or if you've already mastered riding corners then come out and ride them fast and hard!! These corners are a blast either way.

Now me not being the best rider, hopefully some of the OG's and regular Escarpment Surfers will come out to share their wisdom and give some pointers.

I moved this over here because I thought it deserved more discussion, and also cuz it's likely going to be the ES boyz that get this shit together.

CIRCA, Adam, Dudes!
I've been thinking about this very thing, but I got preoccupied with some litigous unpleasantness.  Tongue

It occurred to me that even though you're kind of stuck at home, CIRCA, on your ass with a busted shoulder, you can still do a great deal to spread the stoke. Winter's not going to last much longer, so we should talk about setting up some dates for clinics in the Spring.
I was thinking we could organize a series of clinics: things like Speed Arrest, Cornering and the like.
I want to go to Munnsville this year and lose my race cherry, and so I'm willing to do what I can to help others on their way.

My father-in-law is retired, but has a part-time job at Avis --the car rental co.-- and, I can likely get us a deal on a large-ish passenger van to get folks to the sessions and back.

Let's get this on the table and talk about it, set up a meeting, whatever...
Anyone interested?

Yeah I wouldn't mind doing a beginner sesh sooner rather than later.  I won't be able to skate but I can watch and tell you what you need to work on.  There is one caveat however, due to the nature of the place where I would hold the session I would have to keep it small.  Maybe 5 slots for riders and that's it, otherwise we run the risk of getting kicked out.

Yeah, ya see? This is clearly going to be a popular idea, much like the first Slideskool was
*hack-hack*npr*cough-wheeze*...

But, hells yeah. Let's get it together.
If I bring a driver I can bring two other skaters; if not, then three.

If it would be okay with you guys, I would love to tag along, if I can get my own ride up from Orangeville, that is.

Jer, sorry, but I only have a fullface that fits me! I'm buying a classic skate-helmet from protec soon, if you're head is a size medium I'll let you borrow that!

Could I PLEASE come out? (Pending if I get my own ride up, or not.)  Grin

More on this later, I gotta take off atm.

You guys don't need a fullface for this stuff, like I said it is slow.  If you've ever seen the Jefferson pins in York Region, it is the same speed but the roads are 1 full lane.  Lots of space, you won't get hurt unless you hit a car Smiley

I've been tinkering with some ideas this season, and as I've stated before Slide Skool v1.2 is indeed going down this year. As well, I've been focusing on the possibility of a speed/control clinic, ironically, AT Jefferson Forest. The whole area tops out at 50km/h, into either a 90 degree left, or 90 degree right. On top of being littered with somewhat tight, technical pathways, I think it would be a great area to hold something like this.

I've got alot brewing, but I'll keep the details coming as I figure things out. In the mean time, I'm happy to lend a hand with any of this.

Yeah that was the idea, if the first session runs well we'll do other ones for more new people.  Ideally I'd like to get people who are really fresh or who have very little experience each time so everyone can reap the most benefit from the experience.  As I stated I'll really only be covering the basics here, the rest I'll leave to more technical oriented events where you can get a chance to exercise new skills and learn more advanced techniques such as what Nick is proposing or in Burlington.  Ideally I'd like to get people prepped to feel comfortable taking the next step, such as hills with tighter cornering and faster speeds like in the Beaches and ultimately the Poop shoot and finally Burlington.

Bring whatever you feel comfortable riding or what you plan on riding for DH.  As I said this stuff is very mild so don't worry about setting something up for hardcore speed.  If you need pointers on setups send me a PM or save your questions for the session and we'll discuss it there.  If you have a choice of wheels to use, don't use a super grippy set of wheels like bigzigs.  You're going to have a harder time attempting to drift corners since the speeds aren't all that fast and the road isn't that tight.  Leathers , fullface and such are not necessary obviously, but if you want to get a feel for what it's like to ride in leathers by all means feel free to ride with them if you want.  I'll bring a set for people to try out if they want, although they'll only fit someone roughly my size (42, 5'11/160lbs) or smaller.
Otherwise, safety gear I leave up to you, minimum I would recommend is a skate lid and slide gloves.  Pads are a good idea but optional.

Nick, it'd be awesome if you could come.  It'd be great to have someone who could more effectively physically demonstrate technique since I'll be limited in what I can do myself.

So right now let's just say that we have

Splat (tentative)

As for a date I'm thinking earliest possible would have to be the weekend of the 16th for me.

Well I have the lid and gloves, and some clothes I don't care much about, as well as some gear I need to try. LY DH deck and Hawgs. Unfortunately I'm in BC on the 16th, so if it's run then I'll have to catch round 2. If it's a little later on I might be able to make it.
