Hey,

Glad I found this forum. I need help purchasing my first longboard, and help learning. I haven't stepped on a board. Just to give you guys a better idea how much of a noob I am. . Any tips you guys can give me?

Appreciate any help at all!

*EDIT*

Thank you for response. I'm 5'8, 170 pounds. I just want to learn the basics initially, cruise, but definitely want to get into it completely.

Post up more info regarding your height, weight, and what you want to do with your new longboard. (i.e just cruise around, go fast, transportation, etc.) You will get more accurate feedback that way.

My personal no fail recommendation (unless you are a tiny kid) Rayne Nemesis, Paris 180s, Wheels(see above for better feedback)

Also come to the Swap Meet (see calendar events) that will be your best bet to getting a good bang for your buck.

Can't make it, I'm at work until 8 unfortunately. I start getting to know my way around the board now, so I will keep my eyes open for any other meet ups, hopefully in the evening. Weather is getting better and better! I did read about these Krown longboards that are really cheap, any idea how good they are, I mean for beginner if I change wheels? Or is it better to buy a better one and spend the difference. Any shops you guys been to that you can recommend?

Dogbowl is great.

I started on a sector 9 pin tail. Pretty cheap/decent. Start basic, learn what you like and go from there.

Hey thanks a lot for the responses, I guess there's lots of new riders as I see getting lots of views. Great thread for info! I will call them today and see what I can get or maybe drop by. In the mean time, if there's anyone selling older or unused boards for good price that you might think is good for cruising or beginner, please let me know. Thanks again everyone!

I think pintails are best for beginners. They aren't to expensive and can be all around boards...for beginners. You can do a little sliding, downhill, cruising and carving. There aren't the best for any of those things but its just to get to know what you want to get into. I would definitely start with one of those. And dogbowl is a good shop. They dont have too much stock right now but i think more is coming very soon.

'you can't,' is a sentence i hear everyday. Truthfully, it's the only thing that triggers my inspiration.
